Extended School Year (ESY) Overview

Extended School Year (ESY) programming is provided for all eligible students who are enrolled during the regular term school year in any of the SASED programs.  Additionally, SASED conducts an extended school year program for elementary grade students who receive instructional/self-contained level programming within our 18 member districts.

Eligibility

Students are determined to be eligible for the Extended School Year program through the IEP process with their SASED program or in their home districts.  SASED ESY is just one option in the continuum of supports, services and placements available to meet a student’s needs.

Curriculum and Instruction

The ESY academic curriculum is aligned to the ISBE standards.  Highlighted in the program are standards that address the following components: Social and Emotional Learning, Communication and Critical Life Skills. In conjuction with the student's home school,  ESY goals are developed and progressed monitored with reporting of results back to the student's home school.
